TY Summer Programme 2021 at IWA Clane
This summer we ran a follow up programme to our hugely successful TY programme funded by Kildare LEADER partnership at the Rathcoffey ZWCG in the Biodiversity gardens at the IWA Clane (https://iwaclanebiodiversitygarden.wordpress.com/). The project was kindly funded by the John Sullivan Resource Centre and by our heritage officer Bridget Loughlin of the County Kildare Heritage Office.
We ran a 6 week programme over the summer. Over the course of the summer we ran two events for Heritage Week, an opening morning for children and their families to do pond dips, bug hunts and nature art, and in collaboration with Philip Strickland(philip@moths.ie) of Wild Kildare and Moths.ie, we did a moth event at the garden.
We did a walk around Clane of the Biodiversity hot spots while also doing a litter pick with John Kennedy of Digital Nature, the TY group also planted pollinator friendly planting at our wildlife pond and worked on finishing our newly planted and mulched Butterfly garden at the centre which is used by the members and is also butterfly and pollinator friendly. The TY’s also made some elderflower and blackcurrant cordial from harvesting plants in the garden, cookies on the fire and we experimented with making natural dyes for tie-dyeing.
